it was cosy squeezing on the king-size bed in our minsu room @ luodong. :)
we woke up in the morning to enjoy the yummeh home-cooked breakfast - porridge and 家常菜.
even the common area for meals is a pretty place
since our minsu is deer villa, there are plenty of deer decor here!
we called a cab (what else?!) to bring us to the train station as we were moving out to hualien!
taken while waiting for the cab to come
we took the train at 11+am and were in hualien in a jiffy - in an hour!
we were smarter this time round, we took a cab from the train station to our minsu @ hualien.
deposited our luggage and were good to hit the city centre for late lunch!
lunch was around city centre and we managed to hunt down the popular 公正包子of hualien.
the 小笼包 and 汤包 were very nice
and i especially heart their 肉羹面!
look at the crowd outside the eatery place at the bottom right. we were lucky to get seats fast.
top right was one of the nicest pancake eaten. it was so good that we came back for it the next night... :P
Hualien is really a small town with nothing much.
but all the same, there is good food here and there. we explored more of the city center while munching along the way..
we went back to "check in" our minsu at around 4pm.
minsu @ hualien is 像个家民宿 (@home). and it is indeed like a home - cosy and friendly owners in the package.
the room was simply done up and spacious enough for all of us.
we (hubbi and me) rested while the boys watched cartoons to their heart content (yes, more spongbob!).
at 6pm, we made our way to the 自强夜市 in hualien.
different from the night markets in taipei, this night market is 80% on food.
and yummy food it has!!
seriously, i find the food the nicest here of all the night markets i've been to!
we were eating non-stop for the 2 hours we were here.
it was a small night market though, like 1/10 of shilin?
left: waiting for our corn to be grilled. we chose our own corn and pay according to its weight
top right: you select your choice of 串s and they grilled it in 10mins time. super yummy
bottom right: there are a few steak eateries choices here. the one we had was good and cheap
top: yummy corn but not for those who like their corns crunchy. this is very "nua" and juicy! *slurp*
bottom left: 棺材板 - basically thick french toast with fillings of your choice
we chose satay chicken :P
other than the above, we ate 韭菜包, 香肠 and even tabao a pizza back to minsu for supper!
the pizza was grilled the traditional way - in an oven heated up by 木材.
it was so good it was devoured by the boys.. i only managed to have 1 slice....
day 1 in hualien was a foodie one and no one is complaining!
