a single man (spoilers ahead!) and oops i did it again.

deposited yr at my mum's place yesterday for a last burst of me-time before going back to work next monday.
decided to watch "a single man" as the trailer intrigued me to no end.
oh, and the fact that its a debut directorial effort by tom ford!

"a single man" is based on a same-titled novel by Christopher Isherwood.
the movie leads us through a day of a homosexual man (colin firth) who is still grieving for his long-time partner who died in a car accident 8 mths back in the 1960s setting.
through flashbacks and unassuming events of the day, we get acquited with his profession (an english professor), his background (a brit who relocated from london to los angeles), his best friend (charlie acted wonderfully by julianna moore) and his goal for the day (to commit suicide with an old revolver in his possession).

the movie is top-notch is so many areas.
first the cinematography and the costume design of the cast. what to expect from tom ford but the most impeccable clothings donned by the characters and every scene looks cut out from some stylish coffee table book.
lol. it is that good.i wonder if all 60s women were that good with eyeliners and gosh, the amount of time spent on making up the face and coiffing of those hair!

next the plot. im not sure how good is the novel and i think i should be getting it real soon.
if its as good or better than the show, then the book will be a good classic one for english literature!
it explores so well the various themes of friendship, solitude, love, death etc.
i love how the story unfolds.
so george (firth the protagonist) met an assortment of characters during the day ranging from the picture perfect neighbour to the bordering on obsessive gorgeous boy student.
and the film kept you wondering what the final outcome will be.
will he or will he not go ahead with the suicide act?!

finally the acting.
firth was fantabulous as george. now that i've seen almost all the shows starring the leading actor nominees (with the exception of invictus only), i feel that firth truly deserves the little golden man.
to see the naunces of different feelings dancing across his face is such a delight.
before this show, i was never the greatest fan of firth.
my impression of him was still stuck at mark darcy in bridget jones's diary.
but now, im in awe. such a good actor.
speaking of that, where the hell is edward norton my fav. actor!!

anyway, what a shitload of comments for a single man.
but its really the best movie for me (year-to-date at least)!

so, after the show decided to go to 313 to get some tights from uniqlo before waiting for the husband to off work.
bad move.
ended up buying a dress from gg5 and uniqlo t-shirts for hubbi, myself and yz on top of the tights that i originally wanted. @_@
so much about exercising restraint on my shopping sprees.
i really must try harder. at least till my next pay cheque. :P
