taiwan/hk trip: day4 - taroko gorge

for the trip, one of the main highlights have to be this - visiting the taroko gorge!
we hired a private driver - tiffany to bring us round taroko gorge.
you can look for her in fb by looking for tiffany taxi driver. she is very friendly and a safe driver.
really worth recommending.

we had our breakfast - home cooked by the owners - at 8+am.
the fruits were especially fresh and yummy - star fruit & guava!

tiffany fetched us at 10sharp and we were well on our way to taroko gorge.
it was less than an hour ride from our minsu to taroko gorge.
first stop: 清水断壁
the view is really fantastic. like we were back at the great ocean road, only better scenery. :)
the pacific ocean right in front of us!

were blessed with good weather when we were in taroko gorge!

@长春祠

长春祠 is very picturesque and we have a good walk along the trail to the shrine above.
top right picture shows that there are more walking trails that lead into the mountain...
not for us though.. :P
we were happy to have a leisure walk around the main area...

and before long, we were due for lunch!
venue was at the top of the mountain at 布洛灣山月邨。
the food was pretty decent and authentic looking. :D

after lunch, it was onwards to another main attraction at taroko gorge - 燕子口!

as this area is well known for its falling stones, we need to put on helmets...

the holes in the mountain walls made them natural habitat for the swallows.
not a geography student and never really a big fan of natural scenery.
but i must admit, marveling at nature's wonder once in awhile can really be an amazing experience..

top: @慈母桥
can you see a frog under the bridge?with the pavilion as its "crown"..
it was said that the bridge was built to "weigh" down on the frog so it cant jump around and bring calamity to the area... interesting story

to be honest, though i was admiring all the wonderful scenery around me in the cool weather, somewhere inside of me were terribly afraid of huge boulders crushing down on us!
it didnt help that whenever we were round a bend and our tour guide will mentioned just not so long ago, at the exact spot, huge stones fell.
or at certain stretches, she will urged us not to stay for too long as *again* rocks fell down not too long ago...
and it doesnt help as well that signs above were pretty common in taroko gorge. @_@
being timid me, it was both a beautiful and torturing time for me when we were at taroko gorge....

last stop for the day - 七星潭

nothing spectacular here.
the younger boy fell asleep by then and we just stayed awhile enjoying the sea breeze...
by the time our tour guide ended the day tour and sent us back to minsu, it was already 5+pm.....
it has been a long and tiring day, albeit a fun one, for all of us...

after some nua-ing in minsu, we moved out again to city center for dinner.
dinner was at some random 饺子店 which was yummy and super cheap!
we went 曾记 to buy muah ji. the 冲绳黑糖 is super 赞 ok!

we will moving out to cingjing tomorrow after 2 nights in hualien!
